AERO CLUBS DE BULGARIE
Les informations sur les aéro-clubs
bulgares nous ont été fournies en janvier et février 2004 par
Mr Nick Kaltchev - Directeur des Aero-Clubs Bulgares et
Mr Ognian Draganov - Bureau Jeppesen Bulgarie
que nous remercions vivement.
Aero club Bozhuriste
About 15 km west of Sofia near to NDB BOZ
is Aero club Bozhuriste. Grass field with hard surface runway with
length 800 meters, Good for VFR flights but with some restrictions from Sofia
Airport (LBSF). There are two hangars. Special attention should be paid to the
fact that NDB BOZ and also some still existing buildings near to the Aero club
were bulld by a french company during the age of long flights after 1920.
Bozhurishte Aero club is near the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia. At the same place
was the airplane factory DAR, closed shortly after WWII.
Bozurishte has a 780 m concrete runway (grass field and grass runway can not be
used) but no housing/food facilities.
To see Sofia, you will have to use a nearby motel overnight.
AVGAS 100LL supply possible if ordered in advance, Customs and Immigration
clearences might be arranged.
However, the operating licence of the airfield has expired.
There are bureaucratic problems to fight before obtaining an operational
licence. The problem will be fixed before July 2004.
Aero club of Plovdiv
About 10 km south from Plovdiv is situated
the Aero club of Plovdiv, at the same place with Plovdiv Airport (LBPD) and
military Helicopter base. There is a wide grass strip parallel the hard surface
runway. A military repair aviation factory During the Summer season the trafic
is not dense - only few commercial flights daily, most of them cargo planes.
Here is the biggest aviation museum in Bulgaria, or the only one....
Aeroclub of Kazanluk
Between Balkan mountain and Sredna Gora
mountains, 5 km south of Kazanluk is the Aeroclub of Kazanluk. At that place was
held World Parachute Championship about 30 years ago. Near Kazanluk there was an
airplane factory Caprony - presently "Hydraulica - Kaznluk".
Aero Club - South of Sliven
South of Sliven there is an Aero club with
long hard surface runway and large grass field. Hangar. The near mountain is
very good for deltagliders and paragliders.
Aero club south of Stara Zagora
Few km South of Stara Zagora is situated
one Aero club with long hard surface runway and nice grass field. There is a
hangar. The airfield is shared between military helicopter base and aero club.
Aero club and dust-crop aviation Burgas
At the Black Sea side is Burgas (LBBG) -
beyond the runway, if you watch from the restaurant in the main building you
will see a grass field and hangar, used by Aero club and dust-crop aviation. One
of the buildings was build by the french company doing long flights after WWI.
At Burgas often is blowing strong cross wind.
Aeroclub at Varna
The Aeroclub at Varna is about 12 km from the International Airport, on a plato
few km from the glide path. It is a grass field with hangar in one edge.
Shumen Aero club
Shumen Aero club was the mecca of gliders in Bulgaria. Probably the
largest piece of space G is to the north up to Danube river and the boundary
with Romania.
Two airfields near to Ruse
Ruse is very close to the boundary with Romania. There are two airfields near to
Ruse. One is Civil/Military Airport with hard surface airstrip used by Military
flight School and civil domestic PAX flights.
Gorna Oriahovitza Civil / Aero club / Agricultural
Aviation
Gorna Oriahovitza is in the center of
Bulgaria - Civil / Aero club / Agricultural Aviation/ There is long hard strip
and Grass field parallel to it. It was used for cargo flights and domestic PAX
flights. Now a private flight school use the airport for training flights.
Aero club field- Near Montana - Old name:
Michaylovgrad
Near Montana (Old name Michaylovgrad) is
situated one large Aero club field with aviation repairing factory for light
planes and helicopters and hangars.
In NW Bulgaria, on old maps there is the previous name of the city: Mihailovgrad).
Montana is not shown on the navigation maps. It has a 1200 m long grass runway.
Montana District Governor is a fan of aviation, it is already arranged
Immigration and Customs to be cleared on the spot. Supply of AVGAS 100LL is
ensured if ordered in advance.
Housing will be arranged either in the quarters at the airfield or in the nearby
guesthouse.
Unfortunately most of above mentioned Aeroclubs stoped their operations years
ago, because of the collapse of the
system in Bulgaria.
All clubs were with fuel stores and equipments for refueling, control towers,
hangars and repairing shops. Now they are in the possession of Defense
Ministry, without any activities.
Private Airport:
There is also one private airport
working pretty well 70 km South East of Sofia.
